 Course Overview

 The Great Depression is course will examine why the Great Depression emerged; how its effects were manifest in the world’s major economies; and what policies were debated and enacted in response. [For more information see syllabus. ]

 Course requirements:

 This is a seven-session mini course based entirely on the case method. The reading for each class is a single case study, sometimes accompanied by additional cases or data sets. There are no lectures in class. Instead, class time will be devoted to a Socratic inquiry of the material at hand.

Prequisites: none

Grading : Class participation 50%; short analytical essay 50%. No other assignments.

 Required: Coursepack available for purchase in the Barnard Economics Department office, 4A Lehman Hall, (M-Th 10am-4pm). Price: $30.00 (exact change only, or check made out to “ Barnard College”)
